One man and his bot
Many people confuse "robots" with "remote control vehicles", but a robot should not need a driver - it should drive itself!
One man and his bot features a group of robot "sheep" which flock together, and a remotecontrol "sheepdog". Can you use the sheepdog to get the sheep in the pen?
The event shows how scientists are inspired by biology to create autonomous robots.

Walking with Robots at TAROS-07
There is considerable pressure on the science and engineering communities to engage with the public about their work.
A major step needed to achieve this is capacity building: development of the required public engagement skills and relationships amongst scientists and engineers. However, the need to spend more time on research has been identified as a major drawback for engaging with the public , therefore, finding the time to develop resources and skills, and organise events is difficult.
Existing members of the Walking with Robots network have found their involvement to be highly beneficial in terms of training and skills development in this area, as well as access to an additional funding stream and new collaborations and contacts in their research field.
In this session you will receive an introduction to Walking with Robots and what it can do for you!

Talk on the political issues that inspired the creation of the first robots and the importance of robots as a vehicle to think about what it means to be human.
The robot was invented in response to the political uncertainty and rebellion of the 1920s by Czech playwright Karel Capek in his play, R.U.R (Rossum's Universal Robots). The talk examines the political issues that inspired the creation of the first robots and the importance of robots as a vehicle to think about what it means to be human.
