"Rights for Robots" debate at the Dana Centre
In a recent study commissioned by the UK Office of Science and Innovation's Horizon Scanning Centre entitled "Utopian dream or rise of the machines?" it was claimed that robots could, within the next 20 to 50 years, demand the same citizen's rights as humans including social benefits such as housing and even "robo-healthcare". How true is this claim? What stands in the way? And mindful of the ethical implications, what does this mean for the future of intelligent robotics research?
A team of experts from the Walking with Robots network use this study as a starting point to explore the wide range of surrounding issues, including current technological limitations, conscious robots, robot licensing, and safety critical testing. Come and join in this interesting and important debate.
- Date: Tuesday 24th April, 7.00pm
- Location: Dana Centre, London

One man and his bot
Many people confuse "robots" with "remote control vehicles", but a robot should not need a driver – it should drive itself!
One man and his bot features a group of robot "sheep" which flock together, and a remotecontrol "sheepdog". Can you use the sheepdog to get the sheep in the pen?
The event shows how scientists are inspired by biology to create autonomous robots.
