Theme 3: People
Robots are real entities with whom interactions are possible. Human-Robot Interaction is a quickly growing research area and draws on ideas from robotics, engineering, psychology, ethology and cognitive science. As robots become increasingly intelligent, humans will interact with robots in new and quite probably surprising ways. This raises deep issues of social intelligence, communication and interaction that have traditionally been studied primarily in psychology and other areas.
Intelligent robotics research raises a variety of social, cultural and ethical issues which are relevant to people, and require serious consideration and discussion. This theme looks at the issues surrounding robots and people, and robots as people.
Research in intelligent robotics is also highly rewarding, and incorporates a spectrum of exciting and inspirational science and technology disciplines. The theme 'People' provides an ideal opportunity to meet the scientists and engineers who do that research.
What we propose is not just an engagement about robots; it will also be an engagement with robots and roboticists.
